Walter R Hoegy

Member of MHA 1999-2005, 2009-present.
Position in MHA: novice, enrolled in Basic Crew training class for the Madeline and Welcome.
Sailing Experience: Learned to sail homemade boat while a teenager. Bought a 15’ Teal and sailed it in East Bay on summer weekends in early grad school. Crewed on 30’ Bristol in Chesapeake Bay on many sails when worked for NASA. Sailing 13’ kit boat in Little Glen.
Boat Building Experience: Helped Dad convert row boat into sailboat, made the sail, and helped Dad build a rib-based motor boat in the 50s. Built a kit boat, Swifty 13 in 05 when moved to Empire from Northern Virginia.
Hobbies: Sailing, kayaking, hiking, biking, fishing, model train building, and playing trombone.
Education: BSE (Physics), Ph.D. Physics, University of Michigan.
Employment: National Bureau of Standards 1967-1969, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center 1969-2005.
